Older Persons Mental Health
We offer specialist mental health care for older adults. Our team has sub-specialist training in psychogeriatrics to offer tailored support. We also offer bulk-billing for residents of nursing homes.
We provide compassionate, expert care for older adults experiencing depression, anxiety, memory concerns, behavioural changes, or complex medical-psychiatric conditions. We have clinicians that are sub-specialists in psychogeriatrics and have worked across inpatient, outpatient, and memory clinic settings. Our clinicians have experience in cognitive assessment, dementia care, and late-life mental health.
What is older persons mental health?
Older persons mental health focuses on the prevention, assessment, and treatment of mental health conditions in later life, usually from around 60 years and older. It recognises the close interaction between physical health, medications, life transitions, and social factors that influence emotional wellbeing with ageing.
Is it mental health or dementia?
Symptoms such as memory changes, low mood, anxiety, behavioural changes, or sleep difficulties can be caused by mental health conditions, dementia, medical illness, or medication effects. In older adults, these conditions can overlap and appear similar. Our service has specific expertise in distinguishing psychiatric disorders from dementia. Dr Flavell has a research background in this area, supporting accurate diagnosis and clear care planning for patients and families.
Why chose the Mind Cove?
At The Mind Cove, we offer subspecialist old age mental health care using an evidence based, holistic approach. Comprehensive assessment may include cognitive evaluation, relevant investigations, and consideration of biological, psychological, and social factors. This allows us to clarify diagnoses, identify underlying causes, and develop personalised treatment plans that support cognitive health and wellbeing.
