What are the symptoms of ADHD?

  • A short attention span for everyday tasks (e.g. chores and homework)
  • Distractibility
  • Procrastination
  • Disorganisation
  • Problems with follow-through
  • Poor impulse control (e.g. speak before thinking)

What are the symptoms of Autism?

  • Social communication and interaction difficulties
  • Repetitive behaviours and strict routines
  • Intense or narrow special interests
  • Sensory sensitivities or sensory seeking
  • Emotional regulation and change difficulties

Does ADHD & Autism present differently in some people?

Yes, ADHD and autism can present differently in some people, especially in women and in middle aged or older adults. Symptoms may be more subtle or masked by long standing coping strategies, and can change over time due to hormonal shifts, stress, or ageing. This can make diagnosis more complex and sometimes overlap with mood disorders or cognitive decline. Subspecialist assessment by a neuropsychiatrist is therefore important to accurately diagnose ADHD or autism, rule out conditions such as dementia, investigate possible genetic or neurological causes, and guide appropriate management.

Why chose the Mind Cove for ADHD & Autism?

At The Mind Cove, we use evidence based clinical assessments (e.g., the DIVA and ADOS) as part of a comprehensive evaluation that also includes lab testing and assessing the biological, psychological, and social factors that may contribute to your symptoms. We also have expertise in middle aged and older adults–a cohort of people often misdiagnosed. Based on all of this information, we can identify the root causes of your symptoms and develop a personalised treatment plan to help.
